There have been lots of changes in the Keighley office in the last 6 months. Sophie Powell has been appointed as the Project Manager, leading on the Empowerment for Girls programme. Since then the programme has been written, 60 young people aged 11-15 were recruited over 4 schools in Keighley and a 6 week programme was successfully delivered.

The programme covered self esteem and identity, conflict resolution, human rights, gender equality, healthy relationships and media and influence.

At the end of the programme the young women came together for a celebration event at The Big Swing in Eccleshill, Bradford. The students took part in lindy hop workshops with Helen from Swing Dance Leeds, self defence with Jackie from Warrior Women, and a Q&A with Kirsty from Step 2.

A group of students worked with Ann from BCB radio to create a 30 minute show exploring some of the themes of the Empowerment for Girls programme. The programme was aired on 8th August 6.30pm. Listen again here

We’re now planning the upcoming year, developing a leadership project and looking at ways of expanding the programme as a whole!
