When I was researching Implicit Bias I came across a TEDx talk by Melanie Funchess, an educator and community worker based in Rochester US. Funchess described a Nguni Bantu word Ubuntu “I am who I am because of who we all are, and we are who we are because of who I am.”

This resonated as a true basis for community building; the idea that if we are our best selves we influence other people, and we can only be our best selves because of the great people around us. There are some fascinating discussions of Ubuntu definitions here from native speakers of Nguni Bantu and languages who have definitions of Ubuntu.
