Leadership Squad is a group of young women aged 11-16 who meet every Wednesday in term time at Central Hall. We are open to new people coming along and getting involved in creative projects in Keighley. This term we’re working towards having our own stall at Bradford Zine Fair in June as part of Bradford Literature Festival. We’ll be visiting a local mosque to find out about Ramadan, going up to Haworth and taking part in writing sessions at the Bronte Parsonage and making our own tours of Keighley using the ideas of psychogeography! From these sessions we’ll be making our own zines with a message.
At Easter we visited the opening of Art School For Rebel Girls, a programme
produced by Pavilion an arts organisation based in Leeds, working with Carr Manor and Cooperative academy, both schools in Leeds. We were given a VIP tour by the Rebel Girls who explained the activities in the programme. They took part in screen printing sessions, worked in photographic darkrooms, visited Yorkshire Sculpture Park and sculpted with clay. They invited us to take part in their exchange project with a school in West Java, Indonesia and we all drew objects on the gallery window of things we use everyday, including phones, headphones, glasses, cups of tea and bed!
We also visited the Henry Moore Institute where we looked at Renee So’s bubbly sculptures and knitted images “they look fun, like clouds” and Leeds Art Gallery where we drew inspiration from Leonardo Da Vinci’s drawings.
There was also time for a cheeky Nando’s at lunch!
Please give Sophie a ring on 07429 740 249 for a chat or email Sophie[at]iclseducation.org if you’re interested in coming along.
We are always open to forming new partnerships and working further afield. Contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org to start the conversation.
